Foilglazer II × Colour Overprint: Infinite Hues from One Silver Foil

Metallic finishing is an effective way to enhance the visual impact of printed materials. Traditionally, applying multiple metallic colours to paper required preparing foil for each colour or large-scale printing and foiling equipment. With Foilglazer II, it is now possible to produce a wide variety of shimmering colours using a single silver foil, offering both production efficiency and exceptional design flexibility for short-run jobs.

Step 1: Print the Foil Areas in Solid Black (K100%)

  • The designated foil areas are printed in solid black. The black toner serves as an adhesive layer, ensuring precise and consistent foil transfer in the next step.

Step 2: Transfer the Silver Foil with Foilglazer II

  • The printed sheet is processed through Foilglazer II. Heat melts the toner and transfers the silver foil onto the black-printed areas—cleanly and accurately, without the need for dies or plates.

Step 3: Add Full-Colour Printing on Top

  • CMYK colours are printed directly over the silver foil. This colour overprint technique enables the creation of a wide range of metallic hues—from subtle tones to highly vibrant effects—using one type of foil.
  • By adjusting the colour data, multiple foil colours can be generated within a single sheet, supporting short-run production and customised applications.

Endless Colours, All from a Single Silver Foil

By combining Foilglazer II with colour overprint, standard silver foil is transformed into a virtually limitless creative palette. This integrated workflow enables a wide range of metallic colour expressions—delivering consistent, high-quality results across premium cards, specialty packaging, and other high-value printed materials. The approach offers both exceptional design flexibility and efficient production, opening new possibilities for advanced metallic finishes.

*Depending on the type of foil and printer used, or their compatibility, overprinting may not adhere properly or may peel off easily. We recommend conducting prior verification to ensure the desired effect can be reproduced.
