Guarantee the right determinate quantity of final products is still a big challenge for several kinds of industries, independent of which niche of market, some of them uses manual counting or weight measure to check the number of items. It seems to be not so productivity (in the case of manual) neither precisely (especially in the case of weight for light or small product used at balance). For paper and derivate it is suitable to count by properly automatic machine, for example UCHIDA has in portfolio Countron Series (models Touch and AT, for papers and derivate).

In the case of special products, one which is becoming most and most common are personalized plastic cards, like member card. This is a part of B2C strategy that your company can be much closer for end-users and know about their behavior as well. Because we are talking about information, it needs to be keep in safe, so its control is totally indispensable and managed by minimal steps of production.

It is the same motive of operation panel’s membrane of an equipment, for example. To avoid the risk of this panel is going to be used in an alternative non-authorized final product and sold as official one, it is necessary to control this quantity.

There is a large applications more, like PCB, gaskets, playing cards, envelopes, manual, booklets, security items and finished packaging (different kind of shapes) which needs to be counted accurately, avoid waste and save time. So, thinking in this demand, UCHIDA developed a new counter machine, named as Countron OP.

In Countron OP the counter mechanism is based in optical sensor, it means, the machine does not need to touch the material or product, therefore it is available to be used in several different kinds of items and thickness, providing a wide range of jobs. This high technology is combined with 6’ touch screen where the concept of friendly use can setup and run jobs, included check details of counting (it shows the frequency used to count, so it enables to count different types of thickness).

Thanks for great design and considering the market’s niches the model is so compact and light ones, and there are handle carries to place it everywhere easier. It results in a fantastic convenient machine.

To collect all information after counting, it can be equipped with thermal printer and/or count log management system, which presents the results through a data plan. Besides it is possible to combine larger table and air compressor (especially for light products).

On a post a week ago, we introduced how we produce drill bits at high level of precision and that we keep trying hard to catch up customers’ requests.

Technologies and passions behind Uchida paper drills

Today, as customers requests more “added-value” prints, we are getting more requests from printers for solutions to punch holes on various materials with different coatings. So the paper drills nowadays are used not only for papers, but also for plastic films, labels, synthetic sheets, lenticular sheets and so on.  Swing tags are the one of the typical applications that we are often asked for solutions.  As written before, more printers are aware that tags on-demand is a good business and a paper drill is an essential part.

If business cards on-demand makes money, why not swing tags?

Generally, valuable prints requires higher quality.  On the contrary, it is more difficult to finish such materials with high precision and less damage. For example, when punching on laminated sheets, strokes need to be not too long but not too short.  Short strokes cause burrs on surfaces of sheets and laminating films peeled away from the sheets.  Long strokes cause generating frictional heat, ending up with sheets stuck on each other.

To avoid such troubles, we offer “Teflon-coated” drill bits.  Teflon coating enhances the durability and smoothness of drill bits, helps drill bits punch holes with better quality especially on laminated sheets and labels.  Especially if you are using a high-end paper drill, which is capable to change the rotating speed of spindle, difference is significant when run at slower speed.

Thus, drill bits seem to be small pieces of metal but the high quality ones are actually made with full of technologies.  There are lots of techniques behind how they are made, and of course there are some tips to use them properly.

Drill bit

Mr. Tsubakihara, the director of Sakura Seiki gave us an advice.  “For longer lifetime of drill bits, we suggest to take the drill bits off the machine and to remove paper chips inside after use.  If the chips are left inside the drill bits, they absorb humidity and cause the rust.  Moisten chips also swell in the drill bits, and cause the chips clogging up when they are used the next time.  Please also ensure to resharpen drill bits when they are being dull. These can damage and shorten lifetimes of the drill bits.   As long as they are maintained properly, our drill bits keep quality at very high level and last long.”
